Curriculum

The Senior School

The curriculum in years 7 to 9 (ages 11-14) gives a balanced education including English, Creative Arts, Languages , Humanities, Mathematics and Science, working towards the UK Key Stage 3 examinations.  At age 14 students sit the UK SATs (Standard Attainment Tests) in English, Mathematics and Science. These tests are also taken by all school students in the United Kingdom.

Students in years 10 and 11 (ages 15 and 16) are prepared for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).  These examinations are recognized worldwide as prestigious and showing a high level of attainment at age 16. In many subjects there is an element of coursework which means that students are building up their chances of success, encouraging them to produce their best work at all times. We offer a balanced range of subjects, including languages, literature, science, mathematics, creative arts, business studies and humanities. We aim to promote excellence in whatever is studied and to lay a secure foundation for further study.

In the 6th Form, (ages 17 and 18), students are prepared for a range of Advanced Level and  AS Level International Examinations. There is a greater emphasis on students planning their own work and they are expected to spend a considerable amount of extra time working unsupervised.  School work therefore begins to prepare them for Higher Education.

The teaching language of the school is English but we are home to a variety of nationalities as a result of many factors, diplomatic postings and overseas transfers being prominent. The school makes special provisions for children whose native language is not English and who are less experienced users of this language.
